How to Get Siblings to Get Along

One can only hope that siblings get along. Unfortunately, many siblings can’t seem to go 5 minutes without yelling at each other. Although it may be normal sibling behavior, you can’t help but wonder if you can skip to the part where they grow up and don’t fight anymore.

If you want to teach your kids how to get along, then take a look below.

Talk to Both of Them

If you think they’re old enough, talk to them about why they fight so often. Talk to them individually and then sit them down together. You may learn some interesting facts about your kids’ dynamic once they start talking.

Encourage Communication

No matter what you find out about how your kids treat each other, you need to let them know that you can provide a safe space where they can open up. For example, if you find out that the older sibling is the one who starts all the fights, don’t dish out punishment just yet.

Be patient and ask the eldest why they feel the need to do those things. Your kids will appreciate that and will be more open to solving conflicts with you as the mediator.

Encourage Quality Time Together

Make some changes in your daily routine to encourage quality time. If your kids only ever spend time together playing, then they will only know how to communicate within that context.

Organize a leisurely activity together so that your kids can get to know each other in a more peaceful setting. Try to limit the activities to non-competitive experiences where neither can come out on top. If your kids find a way to make it about winning and end up fighting, break them up and explain the purpose of the activity.

Encourage Them to Work Together

Sometimes, it is good to use your children’s competitiveness to make them understand teamwork. Encourage them to work together by taking them to a place with a lot of games. Arcades like Chuck E. Cheese are great because there are a lot of games where the siblings can work together to get prizes.

Pairing the siblings against one common enemy (the arcade games) works wonders. Once you do it, you’ll want to take them again and again. Luckily, with Chuck E. Cheese coupons, you can make visits a regular occurrence for a low price.
